Membership
Contents Membership of the Australasian Society for Healthcare Risk Management (AuSHRM) is drawn from healthcare professionals and those interested in the practice of healthcare risk management in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. Students are also encouraged to join AuSHRM and to benefit from the learning and networking opportunities available. By joining AuSHRM you are able to gain immediate access to the latest information on trends in healthcare risk management, a comprehensive and up-to-date education program, information on products, publications and a range of other member services. Members are able to participate in seminars, workshops, conferences and the AuSHRM Healthcare Risk Management Certificate Program at reduced member rates. Membership of AuSHRM will help extend your knowledge and will provide the tools necessary to effectively manage and work within your environment. Expert presenters and instructors, leaders in various fields of healthcare risk management, lead a wide and varied educational program. Through it's members, AuSHRM has demonstrated its capacity to anticipate changes in healthcare delivery systems, regulations and technology, providing members with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work effectively. Publications, newsletters and journals Regular newsletters keep members in touch with trends and advancements in healthcare risk management. Regular journal and article reviews can be found in the members only section of this website. Professional networking and information exchange Networking provides an opportunity for discussion on issues of common interest and concern and provide a point of contact with leading-edge thinkers, with ideas and experiences exchanged of benefit to members and their organisations. The state focus is achieved through the development of state-based chapters which offer a forum for more focused interaction and local issues. Membership of AuSHRM is open to individuals, organisations and students who have involvement or an interest in healthcare risk management. Four catgoriess of membership are offered: Individual Membership An individual member is a professional who is actively involved in the field of healthcare risk management or whose job responsibilities include healthcare risk management, or who has an interest in healthcare risk management. Individual members can vote and hold an elected office in the Society. The Society has a membership brochure and application form for individual membership, which can be viewed and downloaded here. Corporate membership A corporate member is an organisation represented by one designated representative who must be an employee (as defined in the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936) or director of the corporate member. The designated representative can vote and hold an elected office in the Society. The Society has a fact sheet about corporate membership, which can be viewed and downloaded here. There are four categories of corporate membership:
Student membership A student member is an individual who has demonstrated a bona fide interest in the field of healthcare risk management and who is a full time student registered at an institution of higher learning and not otherwise eligible for membership under any other section in the Constitution. Proof of full-time student status is required. Student members cannot vote or hold elected office in the Society. Retired membership A retired member is a previous individual member or the designated representative of a corporate member who is no longer in full-time employment. Retired members can vote and hold an elected office in the Society. Honorary membership An honorary member is any individual member who has served as president of the Society and/or has received the Society’s distinguished service award. Honorary members can vote and may hold an elected office in the Society. Membership application and renewal Any individual who meets membership eligibility criteria may apply for membership in the Society by completing the membership application form provided by the society. Any member, who continues to meet membership eligibility criteria, including financial obligations to the Society, may apply for renewal of membership in the Society by completing the membership renewal application provided by the Society. The executive officer reviews all applications and refers them to the board for consideration if there is any doubt as to membership eligibility. Any decision of the board regarding membership eligibility or category is final. Membership is not transferable. All membership fees fall due on 1 July each year. Pro-rata membership rates apply for members who join after 1 January each year. These are calculated at half the annual membership fee. All fees include Australian GST. Members in New Zealand and South East Asia may deduct 11 per cent.
