AuSHRM's Five-module healthcare risk management certificate course is gaining in reputation. For professionals new to the field, or those wishing to enhance their skills and knowledge in specific areas, this program will assist in understanding, developing and implementing an effective risk management program. The certificate course is a five module educational series. It is particularly suitable for those working in the healthcare administrative and clinical settings including:
Instructed by practicing healthcare risk management professionals from a variety of backgrounds, the program offers up-to-date information on the latest issues and techniques. The focus is on meaningful and useful learning through group interaction that adds to, and enhances, knowledge and performance for the individual and the organisation. Upon successful completion of all five modules, a Certificate of Completion is awarded. AuSHRM has the capacity to develop individual learning packages. These can be tailored for specific user groups and delivered on site upon application. Specific modules can be organised for a guaranteed attendance of 20 delegates. Module 1: Establishing an effective risk management focus within your organisation This module is designed to orientate professionals responsible for the risk management program of an organisation. The module provides an overview of the essentials and fundamentals in designing, establishing, evaluating and maintaining a healthcare risk management program. Module 2: Legal issues and your role as a risk manager The module provides an overview of the legal systems and challenges in which a risk manager is required to operate. Module 3: Clinical risk management Participants are offered the opportunity to learn risk management skills that are unique to healthcare, including clinical risk, patient safety, sentinel event and incident management, accreditation, credentialing and to be kept abreast of contemporary issues. Module 4: Insurance and financial aspects of risk management This module provides an overview of what insurance is, how to obtain it and retain it in a competitive environment, how to develop a relationship with your insurer, the techniques necessary to implement and maintain an effective claims management program, and an understanding of risk financing. Module 5: Essential skills for risk management The fifth module provides a focus on industry specific elements of healthcare organisations including integrated risk management, contracting/outsourcing services, information technology, regulations, standards and compliance. One day workshops are available to individuals who have completed the Healthcare Risk Management Certificate Course. Workshops are held at various times during the year and concentrate on specific risk management issues.
